Cable Bill – How can I cut my cable bill?

Cable Bill –

My cable bill is over 0 each month! I have high speed internet, home digital phone service and movie channels. Most of the fee that I am having trouble with comes from the HD box rentals and fees. I have two HD televisions. So, my question is…. Can you go purchase HD boxes and still get HD "CABLE CHANNELS" or are we stuck paying Comsat to rent theirs?

Also, we are more than happy with dropping ALL movie channels (we rarely watch them any way!) but we still would want the NFL Network and RED ZONE Channel in HD! Any suggestions?

First, see what you can get over the air – through an antenna. I just quit paying the cable company and hooked up a tv antenna – and I get 12 channels…. No more FOX FAKE "News" anyway.

Nobody needs as much bad tv as there is over the cable outfits. But be careful – I could find no way of reaching Besnan – my cable company – so I wrote them a letter saying that I was done paying them. And they’re STILL sending me bills. Who knows? Maybe they’ll take me to court for 6 months of unpaid cable bills down the road. I don’t really know how screwy these places are. But like all corporations, they’re Big and Stupid.

The easiest way to cut your cable bill is to drop cable – but you obviously think it is more important to have all those sports channels than to save money. You can certainly drop the premium movie channels – most of that stuff can be gotten from the Internet for free or very little cost. I would also recommend you eliminate the HD boxes, especially on sets lower than 42". You can rent standard definition boxes that should give you a fine picture – even on an hd tv.
You don’t mention your internet speed, but you might be overpaying for higher speed than you need. 10mb/2mb should be fine for most use – anything above that is waste. You might also consider eliminating your land-line phone, but that might impact your 911 service.
Finally, consider moving to satellite tv, or look for an alternative cable provider. Shopping around can save you money.
