Cable Bill – Chicagoans, what is the total average of your monthly heat, gas, water, and cable bill?

Cable Bill –

I plan to purchase a condo in Chicago. The HOA fee is 0.00 per month but includes: Heat, Water, Gas, Parking, Common Insurance, TV/Cable, Exercise Facilities, Exterior Maintenance & Snow Removal.

Also, if you pay for it, also tell me what you pay for insurance, parking, and snow removal.

Cable Bill

It’s in a great area, but this HOA fee is very high compared to ANY OTHER in that area, many of which don’t include heat, gas, cable, exercise room, or parking. Heck, some don’t even HAVE parking. Keep in mind also that none of these places have a pool.

Basically, I want to know is it worth 0.00 for these amenities?
NEVER MIND. I’VE DONE SOME RESEARCH AND FOUND THAT MOST HOA DUES THAT ARE 250 AND LESS DON’T INCLUDE EXERCISE, GAS, CABLE, OR PARKING, AND THAT THEY’RE SMALLER 2BR CONDOS FOR ABOUT THE SAME PRICE.

How much of my cable bill goes toward the cable companys own advertising?

Thursday, March 25th, 2010

I often wondered, with as much we get gouged by the cable company’s, what amount of that goes toward having to watch the commericals for the cable company on TV. Last night I watched AMC and noticed that they would air 4 commercials during the break, 2 of which were from the cable company FOR the company, played back to back. I’m sure they would chalk that up to "operating costs" but it’s actually advertising. Why do we have to endure that pulp when we already subscribe? Why do we let them get away with it?

My service offers grouping of channels by theme (or genre. Another painful ad that they run incessantly) but you can only have that luxury if you subscribe to the digital programming. Even then, all it does it group the channels; you can’t pick and pay for the genre and belay payment for the rest, unlike Canada who only make you pay for what you choose and block the rest unless you subscribe to them as well.

TV (cable AND satellite) is in high need of reform.

Cable Bill Up?

Friday, March 12th, 2010

Your cable bill has gone up with an average 4% a year? You might not realize this, but you got off quite well. According to an FCC report cable bills have gone more than 90% since the late 90’s.

In 2005 the average TV cable rate was $43, basic cable $14, and the expanded basic package was $28. Most telecommunication prices have come down because of the deregulation, but it did not work for the TV cable bills.

A frustrated customer called his provider in LA to ask for a discount (you can always try). This person was paying over $150 per month and was hoping for a 10% discount. To his surprise he got his monthly cable bill reduced to less than $100!

This person is among a lot of savvy customers who no longer accept high monthly bill who keep on increasing without a good explanation. Give your local cable company a call for a discount can be a good idea.

Another solution is the internet, take a basic internet subscription, call over the internet (by using skype or other services), and watch all TV channels over the web.
